BP Cherry Point Refinery Crude Shutdown Causes Release, NRC Says

BP Plc (BP/)’s refinery in Cherry Point, Washington, released sulfur dioxide during the closing of a crude unit, according to a National Response Center filing. The incident began on May 8, according to the report.

U.S. refineries must notify the response center if they release hazardous substances in excess of reportable quantities, according to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, commonly known as Superfund.
